#asseenininfranklinton began with an observation in 2017 that this particular Instagram hashtag was being used to market trendy new bars and restaurants in gentrifying Franklinton. The project was then launched via marketing in person, in print, and online, as a request to all Franklinton residents to share the photos that they thought best described the neighborhood from the perspective of the people who live here, tagging their photos with that same hashtag and effectively "hijacking" it. Fifty #asseeninfranklinton posts were pulled from Instagram and put to a community vote, and ten of the most popular images defining the neighborhood were printed into vinyl banners, whch were installed in 3 different community locations. This community-based photography project was art by the people of Franklinton, for the people of Franklinton.
